3 Quick tips on how to recognize employees in 2021
2020 has been a very unique and unpredictable year, right? Pivot. Adjust. Adapt. So how do we deal with the challenges of changes?
Giving your employees cookie-cutter awards is no longer a solution in 2021. So we have gathered three tips to help you creatively demonstrate your appreciation for your employees' hard work.
Be clear with the bigger picture
Gallup says " that employee engagement is an even stronger predictor of performance during tough periods such as economic recessions like we are in today." Employees need to see, especially now, that their work impacts something greater than themselves in their workplace.
Employers need to be clear and transparent with regards to what they expect from their employees to avoid high burnout rates.
Reinforcing your goals with a mission statement piece is a great way for your employees to have a physical reminder. We once created a piece for Scotiabank where we digitally printed their tagline “You’re richer than you think”, embedded an “iceberg” and colour tinted the block to represent the ocean. The piece visually reinforces the same message as their tagline.
Reward at the right time and often
One of the most common mistakes companies make when they implement an incentive program is the frequency which they reward. Years of service awards are a great start to showcase those who contributed to the growth of your company.
There needs to be more to complement your employee recognition program, by running shorter programs with clear milestones tailored to your employees and their prospects. People work better when they have monthly goals versus a 12-month goal.
We love the concept behind the unique Tetris award we created for Google engineers.
The concept was that as each team member hit a milestone, they would get a Tetris piece to add to their set. We PMS colour matched the Tetris pieces to Google’s brand colours, printed a bevelled circle with the logo in full colour to represent the Chrome ball and mounted that on a clear backing.
Each Tetris piece is a physical representation of a person’s achievement.
Don’t personalize an award but make it personal
It might sound like a “simple” solution, just embedding an item. However, Clearmount awards are a physical reminder of a memory captured in time. One client decided to celebrate a significant milestone by embedding a piece of the building facade in a memento.
Our artisans embedded the building’s granite pieces in a column and colour tinted the bottom of the piece with the clients’ brand colour blue. We finished the award by laser engraving the back with the iconic neo-Gothic tower and a personalized message at the top.
This employee gift recognizes everyone's hard work and commitment to the company throughout the years. So think about a unique situation or moment where your team thrived, then you contact us with your brilliant idea.
